Dental Implants
Dental implants can change your life.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are tiny screws that are mostly made of titanium or zirconium oxide. The implant body (the screw) is placed inside the jaw, mimicking the root of a natural tooth. An abutment and implant crown (often fused as one unit) are then screwed or screwed and cemented into the implant body. Dental implants are often the number one treatment option to replacing a single missing tooth but can also be used to replace multiple missing teeth (with an implant-supported bridge) or to improve retention of a denture (implant-supported dentures).
In order for an individual to receive a dental implant, the individual must first be screened by the dentist to make sure there’s no contraindication. Sometimes, the surgeon might request a CBCT scan of the jaw area to assess if there’s enough bone for an implant. Depends on the skills, experience or specific situation of the patient, a surgical stent (guide) might be needed to ensure a more precise and predictable result.
Once the implant is placed, the surgeon will place either a cover screw and suture the soft tissue over the entire implant, or an implant abutment and suture the soft tissue around the abutment that will be sticking out of the gum. The implant no requires at least 3-4 months of health/integration before a crown can be made.
Once the crown is fabricated and screwed into or screwed into and cemented onto the implant, the treatment is now completed. The implant crown is fixed and cannot be easily removed. There’s no special maintenance for implants other than normal brushing and flossing to keep plaque away.
